A house located in Melbourne’s inner North. The client wished to add a deck to the rear of the house. Through feasibility studies, we realised the interiors needed to be opened to maximise any additional outdoor areas. Therefore all service, wet and collective areas were demolished, creating a single large volume that is connected to the garden. In this move, an existing circular stair case becomes the heart of the home. The kitchen is designed as a space for cooking and also garden preparations. A single stainless steel surface, with two moulded sinks enables this to happen. Through the careful modulation of zones, this interior generates a series of new activations, addressing the brief, while effectively increasing usable spaces, without extending the footprint.
