Sertori Lau is the conjunction of Sertori + Lau, the Italian and Chinese birth names of practice founder Ying-Lan Dann.
This hybrid name reflects the practice’s multi-disciplinary ethos of using art, architecture, exhibition design, interior design, writing and teaching to surface place-based narratives and histories in an Australian context.
Sertori Lau projects commence through collaboration, fieldwork and archival research, aiming to understand how cultural, socio-political and material forces have shaped and continue shaping contemporary places, discourses and relations; and how to design within these contexts.
This approach seeks to reconcile complex pasts into more equitable, ethical, sensitive and speculative futures.
I am a registered practicing architect and Interior Design Lecturer (RMIT). I hold a PhD in Architecture (RMIT) and Bachelor of Fine Art (VCA). I am a regular contributor to Architecture Media.
